God’s Unfailing Love

God’s heart is moved by our pain,
His compassion beyond what we grasp.
When we stray, His love remains,
Guiding us through life's stormy rasp.

Walk closely with God, my friend,
For His love and compassion endure.
In His Word, our faith shall blend,
A steadfast path, forever secure.

When we falter, repent and return,
His arms open wide, ready to embrace.
Compassionate restoration, we discern,
In God's love, we find eternal grace.

REFLECTION:

Thus says the Lord: When Israel was a child I loved him, out of Egypt I called my son. (Hosea 11:1)

God’s heart is moved by our pain, and His compassion transcends human understanding. His love endures even when we stray.

We should walk closely with God, knowing that His love and compassion are ever-present.

Let us remain faithful to God’s Word, believe in His unchanging love, repent and turn back to Him when we stray and seek His compassionate restoration.

Help us walk closely with You, Lord. May we cling to Your Word, believing in Your unchanging love. When we falter, grant us the humility to repent and turn back to You. Your compassionate arms are always open wide, ready to restore us.

Thank You for Your unwavering love, Your presence, and Your faithfulness. May we remain faithful to You, trusting in Your compassionate heart.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

II: Israel's Guilt and Punishment
WHEN ISRAEL WAS A CHILD / END OF THE EXILE
Hosea 11:1-7 / 8-11

First Reading | Hosea 11:1-4, 8-9

1 Thus says the Lord: When Israel was a child I loved him, out of Egypt I called my son. 2 The more I called them, the farther they went from me, Sacrificing to the Baals and burning incense to idols. 3 Yet it was I who taught Ephraim to walk, who took them in my arms; 4 I drew them with human cords, with bands of love; I fostered them like one who raises an infant to his cheeks; yet, though I stooped to feed my child, they did not know that I was their healer. 8 My heart is overwhelmed, my pity is stirred. 9 I will not give vent to my blazing anger, I will not destroy Ephraim again; For I am God and not man, the Holy One present among you; I will not let the flames consume you.

Background:

These verses provide a glimpse into God’s relationship with Israel, emphasizing His unwavering love and compassion:

Hosea 11:1-4 (NIV): God’s Love for Israel: In this passage, God speaks of His love for Israel, comparing it to a parent’s love for a child. He recalls how He called Israel out of Egypt, taught them to walk, and healed them. Despite their waywardness, God led them with kindness and love. However, Israel turned away, sacrificing to false gods. Key Points: God’s love for Israel is deep and enduring. Israel’s rebellion led them away from God. God’s compassionate care is likened to a parent’s love.

Hosea 11:8-9 (NIV): God’s Heartfelt Dilemma: Here, God expresses His inner struggle. He wonders how He can give up on Ephraim (representing Israel) or treat them like the cities of Admah and Zeboyim (which were destroyed). His compassion is stirred, and He chooses not to unleash His fierce anger. God declares that He is not merely a man; He is the Holy One among them. Key Points: God’s heart is moved by compassion. He refrains from devastating Israel. His nature transcends human limitations.

Application: These passages remind us of God’s unchanging love, even when we stray. His compassion and desire for our restoration are profound. As we reflect on this, let’s seek obedience, trust, and faithfulness in our own lives, knowing that God’s love remains steadfast.

Learning Lessons

Valuable lessons we can learn from Hosea 11:1-4 and Hosea 11:8-9:

God’s Unfailing Love: Hosea 11:1-4 portrays God’s unwavering love for Israel. Despite their waywardness, He cared for them like a loving parent. The lesson here is that God’s love endures even when we stray. We, too, can trust in His faithful love.

God’s Compassion and Dilemma: In Hosea 11:8-9, God expresses His inner struggle. He desires to show compassion rather than judgment. The lesson is that God’s heart is moved by our pain, and His compassion transcends human understanding.

Application: As we reflect on these passages, let’s: Obey: Remain faithful to God’s Word. Trust: Believe in His unchanging love. Repent: Turn back when we stray. Seek: His compassionate restoration.

May these lessons inspire us to walk closely with God, knowing that His love and compassion are ever-present.
